IN PARTICULAR THE BRISTOL PART .I SPENT MANY DAYS AT TEMPLE MEADS TRAIN SPOTTING IN THOSE DAYS I LIVED JUST 1 MILE AWAY FROM THE STATION. I AM THINKING OF TRYING TO MODEL PART OF TEMPLE MEADS IN OO AND MAY CONTACT YOU , JUST IN-CASE YOU MAY HAVE SOME PHOTOS OF THE STATION FROM THE PERIOD YOU SPENT THERE ?

Very impressive, one question though, where do get your LINT from to create such effective grass

In response to the query about surgical lint for grass, unfortunately Boots don't do this any more and nor, it seems, do Superdrug. It is still sold in a number of smaller independent Chemist chains, including Coop Chemists (I bought some in their Totnes branch a few weeks ago). Best to look around next time you see one of the smaller shops.

As a complete novice where railways are concerned I am naturally surfing the Web for any snippets of info available.....My abilities as a modeller in general I would consider good but my knowledge of railways is very limited. Your site is one of the best I have seen so far and it has given me a few ideas. Where I really fall down is with 'Terminology'...... must get to grips with more books.

Reference to you on Scalefour / Masokits re couplings.

I am a member of EMGS, Scalefour and BRMA and I am interested in the BR WR & LMR 1959 to 1964 period, but like you I can stretch to earlier and later periods.

I like the two tone green Class 47 and 25 diesels. This is a very attractive, but short lived, livery. I also think that the all over yellow front end on the 47s is pleasing.

I am also an S&D fan so your site is also interesting to me for that reason.

Just out of curiosity do you know if the roof of Bath green Park was originally covered in slate or was it always corrugated iron ?

( Corrugated Iron is a an underappreciated product. Although it originated in GB it was and still is widely used in Australia. )

Finally ( at last ! ) I like your site and your modelling is to a high standard.

regards, PGM

Have details on suitable army buildings for you. Roco and Rix products both make HO Quonset huts (Nissen huts) and Walthers has some storage sheds that would be great. I am also planning a HO/OO layout, built to serve the American Army forces in the South Hams part of South Devon, where they evacuated eveyone in prepartion for D Day in 1944. Although not really served by railways, I figured that the U.S. Army Transportaion Corps could have extended the G.W.R Yealmpton and Kingsbridge branches to serve. This was actually contemplated by the Plymouth and Dartmoor Railway and the L.S.W.R in the 1890's but quashed by the G.W.R which "neogotiated" and built the Yealmpton branch, from the L.S.W.R's Turnchapel branch. All this as an excuse to intermix American HO models and British OO models on one layout. Loved your website and pictures. Regards Frank.

I just surfed in looking for references to Athelney Station after watching the excellent B & R video Volume 91 "Somerset's Steam Railways" by Jim Clemens. Your line fits in perfectly - I can imagine changing at Taunton and Athelney for Bleakhouse Road, and returning via Wells (Tucker Street) and Yatton!

That is as fine an imaginary history as any I have read, and would certainly convince most people, even those from this part of the world. I love the "real world" pictures mixed in with those of the model.

I remember the layout from Camrail '99 - when will you be exhibiting in this area again?

Tim you old bugger!
As the Archbishop of Canterbury said to the Pope: "Long time no Holy See!"

Just blundered across your web pages whilst looking for historical pictures to go with my web pages chronicalling the construction of a new bike path on the old S&D and GWR formation at Radstock. Looking for pictures of Radstock GWR & S&D stations; Writhlington colliery sidings, and pics in the locality of Paglinch Farm, Shoscombe, Wellow. Also the GWR line past Kilmersdon to Mells Road Station, where the current phase of the bike path project finishes.

Any links or permissions to use suitable pictures most welcome.

Oh yes... Like your web pages too! No mention of your best ever Engine Wood operating assistant though. Swine! Still using those almost invisible 3-link couplings? I expect so. Swine again!

Very interesting and informative website. Particularly noted that you reside near Buckfastleigh. I am currently musing a possible broad gauge layout of Bickington. A line from Newton Abbot to Ashburton was planned about 1845. From there on history and imagination divide.

Hello Tim,

Congratulations on the great website. You've kept it very quiet. Somehow managed to find it during a search for "british rail parcels 4mm"!!! Hopefully I'll manage to get down and see your layouts at an exhibition again soon.

Regards,
Alex

Very imformative site Tim. I am presently planning a 16.5mm finescale layout- also using the cartidge/magazine style fiddleyard. But I will probabably use SMP trackwork. You have given me some ecouragement though to get started. --- cheers Bryn

Great site, 'course what it really needs is some 1/32nd modeling, enough of that 4 foot one and a half inches stuff I say!

Stumbled across your site by accident but found it very interesting and well done. I had trains growing up. Earliest was an American Flyer set from the early fifties which I still have but stored away. Nice job!

Nice to see your site Tim. Cosmo is really loving trains at the moment so maybe a visit to yours could be in order. Let me know a convenient time and we'll pop down the A38.

Love to you and Sara

Great to see the 005 locos at Exeter. I'll try phoning Brian once again to try and convince him to start building (anything) again.

Roger Smith referred me to your excellent site Tim. I must say I am enjoying exploring it very much. Having cycled around the area the Bleakhouse Road is set in recently I think you captured the look of the area !

Very interesting site, many new facts about the Somerset railways. Got some hints for my own layout. There is a too long time to load the pages "Layouts", "Other items", "Projects" so I have to stop them.

I so much enjoyed your "Engine Wood" layout when it appeared in Railway Modeller, and it inspired me to start (still not finished!) a small S&D layout with a not dissimilar track layout (as a refuge from my life-time project building a model of Bath Green Park which is a very long time getting there!! Trackwork laid, station building and some of other buildings so far). I am building the station for my yet unnamed station on that at Midsomer Norton. I'm a long-time S&D fan, having been to school at Bruton (although the sight of Castles, Counties and Kings hurtling through on the WR line beside the school made a bigger impression at the time). I used Cole station several times and on cycle trips into the country came upon Evercreech Junction and other parts of the line, but rarely saw trains as these trips were mainly on Sunday afternoons!! My only regret is that my interest in railways only re-blossomed much later (after the inevitable pre-teens Hornby Dublo trainset) and I did not pay particular attention or take photos. I even lived in Bath from 1960 but only visited Bath Green Park once before it closed and that was to catch a train northwards via Mangotsfield. And then it was all gone.

However thank you for your excellent and inspirational layouts which (now that I am in the far and frozen north!) evoke most vividly the atmosphere of dear old Somerset and the railway scene of the 50's and 60's (which for me would be the priority destination whe I get my Dr Who Time Machine working!!!!).

Incidentally you also inspired me to fit Comet chassis to my ex-Airfix 4F (at least of the 3) but I tried the same on a 2P. There is so little room for any weight in the loco, and as a result the loco wouldn't even pull its own tender!!! I fished the Mainline chassis and tender drive out of the bin and restored it. I don't know if you tried the Comet 2P chassis but it didn't work for me!!

Best wishes, Paul
